SHIPYARD PLANTATION If there were only one phrase to describe this 803-acre plantation, guests and residents would all agree: Shipyard is fun! Shipyard Plantation was created in 1971. From it's fine homes and villas to the oceanfront hotel and conference center to the world famous Shipyard Racquet Club and 27 hole Shipyard Golf Club, it is a perfect environment for couples and families who want an active fun-filled time.

It is in the center of what is happening on Hilton Head Island. Homes and villas view tranquil lagoons and golf fairways with easy access to the Atlantic Ocean. The 20 court Shipyard Racquet Club has been described by Tennis Magazine as "possibly the most beautiful tennis complex anywhere in the U.S.". The same publication ranked it in the top 50 in the country. Designed by Billie Jean King, this tennis great wanted to make a statement with the Shipyard Club. Azaleas, jasmine and pampas grass border the courts. King's idea was to make it so very pleasing that from the steps of the very handsome pro-shop, you would walk down into terraced gardens and onto courts that would make you feel like you were playing in your own backyard. Yet you would have all the services of a world-class facility. If rounds of play are any measure, Shipyard's three championship nine-hole golf courses are among the most popular on Hilton Head Island. George Cobb created the Clipper and Galleon courses and Willard Byrd designed the Brigantine course. Shipyard hosted the Senior PGA tournaments from 1982 to 1985 and won acclaim by these touring veterans. In fact, it was rated as one of the best layouts on the Senior PGA tour.
