HILTON HEAD PLANTATION

Hilton Head Plantation is the second-largest planned community on Hilton Head Island, covering 4,000 acres on the northern tip of the island. It is a lovely residential community that has something for everyone. One of the most complete in terms of recreational facilities, it has everything from a full service marina to an equestrian center. Oyster Reef, one of the Plantation's four golf courses, was rated as one of the top 25 new courses in America in 1983.

Bounded on two sides by Port Royal Sound and Skull Creek (the Intracoastal Waterway), its breathtaking sunsets and water views are unsurpassed. Occupying four thousand areas of naturally lush island vegetation, it is a haven for both wildlife and man. Well planned and meticulously maintained, this friendly community of predominantly full-sized and patio homesites is designed to accommodate approximately four thousand families.

History abounds here also. In 1861, during the War between the States, Hilton Head Island was captured and made the Union's headquarters for the Army of the South. Fort Mitchell was established to defend against possible attack by the Confederate Navy. Earthen mounds still remain at this site within the Plantation.

Just outside the main gate of Hilton Head Plantation is a development of convenience and specialty shops, restaurants, lodging and professional offices known as Main Street.
